Career Path

Sabyasachi Mukherjee wanted to study at NIFT. When he expressed his interest in designing clothes, his parents disagreed and refused to pay for his tuition, since they wanted him to be an engineer.  Sabyasachi sold all his books and paid for his own education, while he pursued a degree at one of India’s most prestigious fashion schools, NIFT. He paid himself for admission form and passed the exam.

After his graduation, with numerous awards as a student, he opened up his own workshop, and started his career from there. Since 1999, he has sold Designer Merchandise using the Label Sabyasachi. He is one of the Associate Designer Members of Fashion Design Council of India. He is also the youngest board member of the National Museum of Indian Cinema.
